Gather unto you some supplies:
• An engraving tool such as a Dremel
• Engraving bits suitable for your surface
• An item to engrave
I got this piece of olive wood pretty inexpensively from a home goods store.
For stone, you will need a hard bit, such as the diamond tipped bit, that is hard enough for the surface.
For wood, you can use less intense bits.
Time of work: A few minutes to a few hours
Time from start to finish: Up to you
How to:
1. Draw the shape onto the surface.
2. Trace it with the bit holding the tip perpendicular to the surface. Carving this Helm of Awe onto this piece of Olive wood, I had to go over each line several times.
You can finish off your piece with a clear coat of acrylic, some oil, or leave it as is.
I use this one as a platform for a gnome I made of Sculpey. See how to use Sculpey in a different post.
