Gather unto you some supplies:
Consider for easy cleanup:
Time of work: About an hour
Time from start to finish: About 3 hours (because of drying times)
1. Hollow out an eggshell. Using a pin or sewing needle, poke a small hole in the narrow end (top) of the egg, and poke a slightly larger hole in the rounder end (bottom) of the egg. Using the pin or sewing needle, pierce the yolk inside the egg and scramble it up. Blow through the top hole, so that the egg yolk and egg white inside the egg is forced out of the bottom hole.
2. Run tap water through the egg to clean out the inside of the egg. Set aside and let dry.
Tip: You can also submerge a hollow egg in a solution of dish soap and let it soak for a while before emptying out the water and letting it dry.
3. This hollow eggshell is a blank canvas for whatever you have in mind to decorate it.
I like to use acrylic paints on eggs. Some people glue ribbons or beads onto the shell, and I’ve seen them covered in glue and dipped in glitter.
I remember as a child the many happy hours spent decorating eggs with my Mom for the Christmas Tree. When the tree came down, we'd wrap them up in tissue paper and put them in boxes for next year. We also gathered the tin stamped Christmas ornaments packaged up with cigarettes during the holiday season. Oh my, we had so many ornaments from cigarette packs. So, so many ornaments from cigarette packs. Here I’m using acrylic paint and an inexpensive paintbrush to make dragon scales.
4. To hang the egg, either glue something to the top of the egg, or thread something through the holes to form a loop.
Cleaning your brushes is a great way to preserve them. Use regular dish soap (I prefer Dawn) and work the liquid into your brushes to grab the pigment and pull it out. Run under a warm water tap flexing the bristles until the water runs clear.
